Submitting ACT Scores: How does it work with the Common App?

I just got my ACT scores back (phew!), and I'm trying to figure out the next steps. Can someone walk me through how to submit my ACT scores through the Common App? Is it automatic, or do I need to send something to each college?

Hey there! First of all, congrats on getting your ACT scores! Here's how it works with the Common App: You'll self-report your scores in the 'Testing' section of each application. Simple as that!

However, it's important to know that self-reporting your scores on the Common App is not the same as officially sending them. Some colleges will require an official score report directly from the ACT - you can do this through the ACT's website. Make sure to check each college's policy, as many allow you to self-report scores in the application and then send the official scores only if you're admitted and decide to attend. If that's the case, it definitely makes sense for you to wait, as sending the score report costs money, so no need to pay the fee until it's necessary.

Finally, mind the deadlines! Sending scores last minute can be risky since it may take a few weeks for schools to receive them, so if you're feeling good about the score you received, so won't be retaking the test, and already have your school list finalized, you could even go ahead and send your scores now, just to get it out of the way. Congrats again and good luck with your college process!
